Dr. Daniel Shy is the owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital, and he has been with the hospital since 2007.
Dr. Daniel Shy is the owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital and has been with the hospital since 2007. Dr. Shy and his wife, Amanda, are both from Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Shy attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS where he received an associate’s degree in Arts. He then transferred to Mississippi State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Animal and Dairy Science in 2002. He continued his education at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2006.
Dr. Shy has many professional interests, including diagnostic imaging (especially ultrasound and digital radiography), dentistry, and feline medicine. He also has a particular interest in otology, the study of diseases of the ear, and advanced treatment of ear disease using video otoscope. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.
“I truly enjoy the relationships with my clients and their pets,” says Dr. Shy. “Learning as a veterinarian never stops, and it never gets old. It seems like you get to see a new wrinkle-in-time case presentation every day. I also have a great tenured team around me!”
Dr. Shy and his wife have two children: a daughter, Marin, and a son, Miller. Marin is currently a Chi Omega at Mississippi State University majoring in finance. Miller is a student-athlete at Starkville Academy. Dr. Shy’s pet family includes two toy poodles named Louie and Lacey (which he doesn’t claim) and Waylon, a Field Type English Cocker Spaniel. Waylon (named after Waylon Jennings) comes to work with Dr. Shy almost every day.
When not busy with his duties as a veterinarian, he enjoys hunting and gamekeeping/land management, and spending time with his family. Dr. Shy is also a member of Pinelake Church where he is involved in the men’s ministry.

She is originally from Flowood, but she moved to Starkville in 2015 to attend Mississippi State University and has stayed ever since. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology from Mississippi State University in 2019 and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023.

She is originally from Flowood, but she moved to Starkville in 2015 to attend Mississippi State University and has stayed ever since. Dr. Dewberry has many special interests in the field of veterinary medicine with her favorites including soft tissue surgery, ultrasound, and internal medicine. She also enjoys working with hunting and working dogs and improving on the human-animal bond. Additionally, she is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Dewberry and her husband, Dalton, have two dogs they adore: Jack, a black lab, and Pal, a Golden Retriever. They recently welcomed a new addition to their family, a precious baby girl. They are loving their time as new parents. Dr. Dewberry’s hobbies include cooking, spending time with family and friends, Mississippi State baseball, and being in the sunshine. Dr. Dewberry is also an active member of Pinelake Church in Starkville.

Client-Patient Director Cynthia McAlpin has worked with clients and their pets at Starkville Veterinary Hospital since 2003. Her responsibilities include discharging patients, sending reminders, conducting follow-ups and checking in patients. She loves working hands-on with pets.

"We treat all pets like they are family," says Cindy. "We have excellent veterinarians and staff that genuinely care for the patients."
When she's not at the hospital, Cindy enjoys cooking with friends, decorating, gardening, and spending time with her pets. Her animal companions include three cats, Sammy, Gus, and Sister; and three dogs, Ty, Luke, and Choco.

Having been a member of the Starkville Veterinary Hospital staff for more than 30 years, she is proud of the professional, compassionate care the hospital staff and veterinarians offer to pets. Ranae earned an Associate's Degree from Wood College in Mathiston, Mississippi in 1986, and a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics and Merchandising from Mississippi State University in 1988.

Ranae's hobbies include shopping, interior decorating, baking and singing. She loves spending time with her husband, Stanley, and their son, Jeb. She has a Red Heeler Mix named Lizzie.

Allie Fletcher joined the team at Starkville Veterinary Hospital in August 2016. As the hospital's Receptionist, she is responsible for welcoming clients and their pets to the practice, answering phones, and preparing records. Allie's favorite part of the job is seeing all the different cats and dogs that walk through the hospital's doors.

Her computer savviness and fun-loving personality make her a great addition to the staff.

At home, Allie has a chocolate lab named Cypress. In her free time, she enjoys going to concerts, crappie fishing, deer hunting, cooking and taking her dogs swimming.

Jocelyn was originally born in Florida but grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. She found herself in Starkville in 2020 while pursuing her bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University.

She graduated in December of 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Animal and Dairy Science. Her goal is to become a veterinarian within a zoo or animal rescue facility. While chasing this dream, she began her time here at SVH to gain valuable experience and to feed her passion for animals.
Jocelyn’s favorite hobby is going to concerts. While not at work, Jocelyn loves playing with her two cats, Chip and Binx. She also loves reading, shopping, and Halloween. Jocelyn is loved by all and is such a valuable part of our team!

Hailey was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas for 24 years before recently moving to Mississippi to explore a more beautiful area.
Hailey was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas for 24 years before recently moving to Mississippi to explore a more beautiful area. She began her veterinary career 3 years ago, starting as a kennel technician for animals with infectious diseases and climbing the ladder to a veterinary assistant to help ensure all family fur babies live a happy and glorious life. She has experience in emergency medicine as well, which has established a fantastic foundation for her career. Her long-term goal is to become a veterinarian, and she is currently working on obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Biological Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.
At home, Hailey has one beautiful kitty, named Shadow, who she claims is the light of her life. Some of her many hobbies include reading, traveling, and cheerleading. We are so happy to have her on our team!

Jillian is originally from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and proudly graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Animal and Dairy Science. She recently applied for veterinary school and is taking this time to hone her skills and build confidence in the veterinary field before embarking on her next four years of education.

A fun fact about Jillian is that she played soccer at Ole Miss before transferring to its rival, Mississippi State. Although she will always be an Ole Miss soccer fan, she considers herself a bulldog at heart!
When Jillian is not at work, she enjoys running, painting, and spending quality time with her pets, friends, and family. Jillian’s pets include a cat named Beetle and a dog named Hank. As a dedicated veterinary assistant, Jillian is passionate about caring for animals and is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of both pets and their owners.
