Dr. Larry L. Anthony opened Starkville Veterinary Hospital in 1974 and has cared for pets here as a general practitioner ever since. He grew up in West Point, about 20 miles from Starkville and has had a lifelong love of animals. He attended Mississippi State University and majored in pre-veterinary medicine before continuing his education at the Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1973.

Dr. Anthony was recently named "Veterinarian of the Year" by the Starkville Daily News. He is active in the Starkville community and is a 20-year member of the Starkville Rotary Club and serves as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church. He is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and is a past secretary and board member of the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

When he's not caring for pets at the hospital, Dr. Anthony's pastimes include turkey and duck hunting, raising beef cattle and traveling.

Dr. Daniel Shy

A small animal general practitioner at Starkville Veterinary Hospital since 2007, Dr. Daniel M. Shy originally hails from Vicksburg. He attended Hinds Community College where he received an Associate's in Arts Degree and later attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Animal and Dairy Science in 2002. He continued his education at the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. He has many professional interests, including diagnostic imaging (especially ultrasound and radiology), dentistry, feline medicine and otology.

He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Shy is a member of the Starkville First Baptist Church. When not busy with his duties at the hospital, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his family. He shares his home with a Rat Terrier mix named Tag, a Toy Poodle named Lacey Kisses (his children named her) and two Original Mountain Curs named Wendell and Stormy.
