Meet the Compassionate and Experienced Starkville Veterinary Team

Dr. Larry Anthony

Dr. Larry L. Anthony opened Starkville Veterinary Hospital in 1974 and has cared for pets at our hospital as a general practitioner ever since. He grew up in West Point, about 20 miles from Starkville, where he developed his lifelong love of animals. He attended Mississippi State University and majored in pre-veterinary medicine before continuing his education at Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine. He was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1973.

Dr. Anthony has been named "Veterinarian of the Year" by the Starkville Daily News several times. He has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Starkville for 35 years and currently serves as an elder. Dr. Anthony has also been a member of the Starkville Rotary Club for the past 30 years.

Dr. Anthony is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and a past secretary and board member of the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association. His professional interests include small animal medicine and internal medicine.

At home, Dr. Anthony has two cats named Tux and Tig. When he's not caring for pets at the hospital, Dr. Anthony's pastimes include hunting a variety of game, raising beef cattle and spending time with his seven adorable grandchildren.

Dr. Daniel Shy

Dr. Daniel Shy is the co-owner of Starkville Veterinary Hospital. Originally from Vicksburg, he attended Hinds Community College where he received an associate's degree in arts. Dr. Shy then attended Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Animal and Dairy Science in 2002. He continued his education at Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Dr. Shy has many professional interests, including diagnostic imaging (especially ultrasound and radiology), dentistry, feline medicine and otology.

He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association.

"I enjoy building relationships with my clients and patients," says Dr. Shy. "Every day brings about a new challenge and an exciting task."

Dr. Shy is a member of the Starkville First Baptist Church where he is involved in the men's ministry. When not busy with his duties at the hospital, he enjoys hunting, fishing, playing golf, traveling and spending quality time with his family. He shares his home with a black goldendoodle named Charlie and a smokey black toy poodle named Lacey Kisses (both named by his kids).
