Surgical Care

Whether your pet requires routine surgery or a more advanced orthopedic procedure, Dr. Anthony, Dr. Shy and the staff at Starkville Veterinary Hospital are ready to provide the most high-quality surgical treatment for your pet.
Starkville Veterinary Hospital is proud to offer the latest surgical equipment for the better treatment of your pet. We are one of the few hospitals in the region to use laser surgical equipment for many procedures. Laser surgery has many benefits for your pet. It minimizes bleeding and reduces pain and swelling and promotes more rapid healing. Risk of infection and recovery time are greatly reduced and your pet faces less post-operative pain.
Dr. Anthony and Dr. Shy have many years experience performing soft-tissue procedures such as spay/neuter surgeries, growth removals and more. We are able to perform a wide range of complex orthopedic surgeries for your pet, including:
- Cranial cruciate ligament repair - extracapsular stabilization
- Patellar luxation - wedge resection and lateral or medial imbrication
- Intramedullary pinning
- External fixation
Emergency Care
Because a medical emergency can happen at any time, Starkville Veterinary Hospital provides 24-hour emergency care. After regular hospital hours, one of our veterinarians is on call and ready to provide emergency care. In the event of an emergency, please call our hospital; the answering machine will provide a telephone number to the veterinarian on call. In some emergency cases, we may refer clients to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Cancer Treatment
Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, a pet diagnosed with cancer can, in many cases, defeat the disease and continue to lead a healthy, happy life. Starkville Veterinary Hospital uses the latest chemotherapy treatments to treat cancer in pets. Because dogs and cats respond differently than humans to chemotherapy, animals do not develop many of the side effects commonly seen in humans following chemotherapy.
